Journey to Justice gathering in the Upper Parish Hall

Journey to Justice (J2J) was officially launched in the fall of 2023, reimagining our long-standing Mission & Outreach committee.

In J2J, we embark on a journey together – from charity to justice, from learning and understanding to action and partnership, and from personal faith to taking our faith into the world.

In J2J, we lean into our baptismal covenant – to seek and serve Christ in all persons, to strive for justice and peace, and respect the dignity of every human being.

Journey to Justice Group Gathering

Sacred Ground

Sacred Ground is the Episcopal Church’s film and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Sacred Ground includes 11 sessions, and our Sacred Ground groups meet every other week for the program year. Part of our spiritual formation is learning together, and we hope that the learning from these groups will transform how we show up in the world.

Civil Rights Pilgrimage

At the conclusion of Sacred Ground, some of our participants went on a Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Montgomery and Selma, Alabama. This was a way to embody the learning and seek further transformation by visiting many sacred Civil Rights sites. We learned together, lamented together, laughed together, and prayed — with our words and our feet.

The Dwelling Place

Every other fourth Saturday, Epiphany serves at The Dwelling Place, a soup kitchen in Woburn open three nights a week serving hot meals to anyone who needs it. Volunteers are needed for a cook day in the Epiphany kitchen on the Friday prior to prepare 40-45 meals. We also need volunteers on site at The Dwelling Place on Saturday to distribute food to guests. Recommended for kids ages 6+. Interested in serving? Contact Rev. Janelle to sign up.

Malden Warming Center

MWC provides overnight housing to people experiencing homelessness during the cold New England winter. It is open every night from December to March and houses approximately 25 guests a night. Shifts are in the early to later evening. There are a multitude of ways to participate: welcoming and checking in guests, monitoring the bathroom, cooking a meal, and assisting in the clothing closet. Parents can also volunteer with their youth-age kids. This is an excellent opportunity to be in solidarity with our neighbors and can be a transformational experience. During the 2025-2026 season, we had 35 parishioners who were involved in volunteering and collectively completed 171 shifts!

Meet The Reverend Janelle

Janelle has served as the Associate for Youth and Community Partnerships at Epiphany since summer of 2022. This means she especially gets to cheer on the tweens and teens at Epiphany and help support social justice efforts through our Journey to Justice (J2J) community. This is meaningful to her as she believes that, at their best, churches should be places of radical welcome for young people and good news in their communities.
